The Vallée d'Ourika, Morocco - A sensorial weekend break

MARCH ARTIST RETREAT

I've spent a long weekend in the Vallée d’Ourika that felt blissful. This sensorial experience and the crisp mountain air held a stillness that felt grounding and expansive with an ancient and earthy atmosphere: Terracotta walls held the warmth of the sun and carved wooden doors whisper stories through their intricate patterns. The repetition of symbols etched into wood, the radial rhythm of palm leaves, the soft scent of citrus fruit were documented in my notebook. Every texture invites touch—the cool ripples of water, tadelakt washed terracotta walls, aloe vera plants and carved tactile wooden doors.

My creative mind is already sparkling new ideas for original artworks capturing the culture's abundant character and mystical atmosphere.

The Ourika Valley feels like a gentle retreat just outside the intensity of Marrakesh. It stretches along a river at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, with terracotta rocky hills, small Berber villages, and lush pockets of greenery.
